TERRIER MATCH NOVEMBER 2ND 2008
A Terrier Match was held at Weedon Bec Village Hall on 2/11/08. The participating breeds were the Fox Terriers, Airedale Terriers, Lakeland Terriers, Irish Terriers and Kerry Blue Terriers. This was the second year that the Terrier match was run, and hopefully it will continue for many years to come. The Match was hosted by the Kerries this year, but all the clubs participated in providing the refreshments and raffle prizes. There was a good selection of food that was much appreciated by the exhibitors. The day started with a demonstration of trimming by Kevin Anderson and David Brand of an Airedale and Irish terrier. This was watched with interest by all that were there and question were asked about the methods used and the demonstrators were excellent in giving detailed answers. After the demo we started with the puppy rounds. Our judges for the day where Mr Ivor Hemming from the Irish Terriers and Ms Carmel Clarke-O’Neil from the Kerry Blue Terriers The Airedale puppy was missing so it was a straight semi final and final from which we ended up with the Best Puppy in Match being the Kerry Blue Terrier Maebryn Silver Fir owned by Nick Deen, A good start for the Kerries. We then started the first round of the adults with all teams represented by five dogs in each team. The draw was carried out and we actually managed to make sure no dogs from the same team met in the first round. The judges looked at the pairing of dogs alternatively selecting the winning dog. After the first round the Kerries finished in the lead with ten points after winning all their match pairings. We then had a best first round loser class, with the Irish terrier selected and so winning a bottle of wine much to the delight of the Irish Terrier team who where excellent in supporting their team through out the day We then came to the second round where two of the Kerries meet in one of the pairings. After the judges went over the dogs, only two Kerries were left for the final, but the Kerries managed to amass 12 points in the second round. In the final there were two Airedales, one fox terrier, one Irish, one Lakeland and two Kerries, After a long debate and moving all the dogs again the judges placed the dogs with the Fox Terrier Denidale Revival owned by George Anderson being placed first, the Lake land second, the Kerry third ,the Airedale fourth and the Irish fifth. The overall winners were the Kerries in first place with 30 points, and the runner up the Fox terriers with 24 points.
