Rescue
From time to time there are Kerry Blues who for various reasons are looking for a caring home - the person in charge of rescue is of course Bridget McGeown whose contact number is 01257 265946. Bridget has a policy of only placing rescue Kerry Blues in homes with people who already have past experience of owning the breed.
In recent years the number of the breed needing ‘rescue’ is totally unacceptable and it appears many have been bred by people who do not exhibit at dog shows. Which goes to prove that buying any dog needs a lot of careful consideration, and prospective owners have much more chance of finding a suitable family pet if they go to reputable show people who on the whole are breeding healthy good natured dogs, which after all is also a necessity for the show ring.
Genuine knowledgeable breeders are able to give much advice and answer any questions new owners may have; the ones who cannot do so should be avoided. This is a specialist breed and our advice to prospective Kerry owners is to thoroughly grill the breeder, particularly with regard to temperament. Just over 2 years ago there were only 1 to 2 per year but in the past 2 years there apparently have been nearly 60 needing rehoming!
Neither the KBTA or Bridget can guarantee the temperament of any Kerries looking for new homes and extensive enquiries should be made by interested parties.
